How it works
If the PDF already has a text layer— which is true of most files a carrier or agency system generates — the text is read out directly. That is instant and exact, with no guessing.
If the PDF is a scan, there is no text to read, only a picture of one. Each page is rendered and run through OCR instead. That is slower, a few seconds a page, and the accuracy depends on how clean the scan is.
Images— JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP, WebP — always go through OCR, since a photo is never anything but pixels.
OCR reads pixels and sometimes guesses wrong, especially on faint faxes, handwriting, tight tables and stamped or skewed pages. Always read the result against the original before you rely on it — particularly for limits, dates and dollar figures. The text box is editable so you can fix anything before copying it.
